Moonjade’s great multi-colored eyes flashed open with a flicker of dim light. The Nursery was a fine place to be and she had been their for a while taking care of, and helping Touchfrost with her kits. She yawned, now there were to many other cats in the den and it was the crowded nature that she had hated so. There was the Queens Touchfrost, and … Rainsong, who really didn’t understand Moonjade and was bound and determined to make Moonjade crash down her wrath upon her, and then there was the kits…. Sunrisekit, Shatteredkit, and Tigerkit, along with a dead kit, and Densekit… then there was Rainsongs six? Or was it Five kits… she couldn’t keep track after all, she wasn’t allowed near them… it was like a sad restraining order they had thrown upon Moonjade and she silently hoped that through one of her kits Rainsong would come to need her help… though she hoped that the kits wouldn’t be hurt during the process.
She shook her fur and nodded to the queen, exhausted, and some what asleep her eyes seemed heavy and half shut, it was then when she saw the commotion outside. Moongaze and Amberkit were in the middle of the clearing, and two others were calling her name in frantic desperation. She Shook her head inwardly at Risingpaw who seemed to be having another one of her moments, and then turned her head to the mouth gaping open Ebonyspire, who was now in her den calling for her. “I must have been so consumed-“ ’Moonjade, Moonjade’ ‘Well… No one’s ever called me…. Unless they were kitting or dead.’ She thought silently… and then the fear struck her. She saw Amberkit with her limp head thrown partially off to the side.
Dashing over she dropped the left over poppy seeds from Touchfrost’s birthing and crouched beside Amberkit. “Hush Hush.” She growled to the other cats. “Moongaze…” her eyes shot up. “Back up.” She mewed… trying to be nicer then her normal… get the crap away from here… or Back off, though any way she said it, it still sounded condescending. She licked her lips as beads of wetness rolled down her lip. ‘Calm Moonjade’ she spoke to herself. As she did this the sweat seemed to stop pouring and a serine sound of birds clicked off into her head. She had seen this behavior before in her Mentor when she died… it was like a disease, and no one knew any thing about it… even Moonjade didn’t know about it… at all But, in her typical no worries and no panic fashion she would play it off like it was perfectly normal to learn about.
“Alright.” She mewed. She helped Amberkit’s head up and tried to force some poppies down her throat. “She was worked up… way to excited no?” She mumbled. She tried to pick the limp apprentice up and stand her up. Instead she helped the limp body sit up. “Moongaze, help her stay in this position…. Keep her conscious.” She mewed. “The poppies will make her even more tired and she started out un conscious any way.
She flicked Amberkit’s face with her tail… “Risingpaw come here and talk to her… its what you’re good at right?” She mewed. “Talk your heart out and try to make Amberkit respond…. And Ebonyspire, go fetch water soaked moss.” She mewed. She herself jumped up into her den faster then any cat had seen her move and then she came back out with some feverfew. She chewed it up slower, but into a slicker paste then normal and helped to slide that down as well. “When you get the wet moss you place some of it under her and some over her…. When you calm her down and get her body cooler she’ll proba- will wake up and be healthy again.” She mewed assuring as if she knew.
Suddenly a flash of light and Moonjade awoke from her deep slumber. Her sides heaved, heavy with breaths of hot air that flooded her den. The medicine cat stood up, her body shaking. What was wrong with her?! It was all just a dream. She felt like slapping herself back into the reality that was. Frowning she picked up a back of herbs and began counting the number of leaves, then she pulled out a packet of seeds and began counting them. She took inventory for a while before she finally finished.
”Four full packets of Poppies, that’s twenty doses for a warrior.” she paused and thought for a moment. ”Six packs of Yew. That’s twelve Doses, Fifteen packs of Yarrow… that’s enough doses.” she mewed not wanting to do the math to figure out how many doses, it was about eighteen or so and that was good enough for her. ”Fourteen applications of Cobweb, and I need to go get Catnip later.” she growled.
Moonjade really, REALLY didn’t want to go get the stupid catnip. That meant she had to travel in and near twoleg fences, and she either had to steer clear of the kittypets and loners, as well as those lumbering fools, or she’d have to seek help in them. She despised both greatly. Taking a breath of air she stood up and sniffed, she had been so bored lately, she needed an apprentice, or some one to go and hurt themselves so that she could heal their wounds but lower their self esteem for them. You know… Hurt them when their down?
Quickly she stood up and gutted her den of all those empty sacks, and then she headed out to the clearing… it was time for a good morsel of food. She reached down and picked up the smallest bird and began eating. Almost hoping some unlucky soul would end up eating with her.
